( http://www.sickduckprod.com/nym/happenings/tekken4/tekken4revealed.html )Namco's newly designed System 246 arcade board, which is essentially an arcade cabinet embedded PlayStation2 board with more RAM
(http://www.futuregamez.net/faq.html#246 )Q: What is this System 246 that I keep hearing about?
A: System 246 is basically the arcade version of the Playstation 2. However several graphics chips can be used together and has more RAM then the "off the shelf" Playstation 2. System 246 should allow for moderately easy conversions between the arcade and Playstation 2 rather like Namco's System 11 and 12 arcade boards and the Playstation, or the Naomi arcade chipset and Dreamcast.
Which system is the easiest to port to? Logically speaking, we'd think the PS2 port would be the easiest since the System 246 is a PS2-comptible board, so that leaves us with the Xbox and the GameCube. Which is easier among the two?
HY: Yes, basically the PS2 port would be the easiest since the System 246 and PS2 are pretty much the same hardware. I think working on the Xbox and the GameCube are both just as challenging, since we have to work around both sets of hardware based on their advantages and disadvantages.

We were a bit off in our impressions last time when we said that the character models were only slightly improved over their Dreamcast counterpart; no, they're actually much improved, and come packed with new animation patterns for all movements and weapons attacks. VF4 still seems to win when it comes to overall character detail, but Soul Calibur 2 is the most well animated fighter we've ever seen; the weapons are given a life all their own in this game. Add in the unmatched lighting and shadow effects (including glorious self-shadowing characters!) and PS2 image quality that only Namco can do, and you've got probably the most beautiful arcade fighter ever made.
