As you can see they don’t specify who exactly is likely to go first, but Canadian retailer Video Game Plus warned over the weekend that the Marth, Villager, and Wii Fit Trainer have been ‘officially discontinued’.
You can imagine what that’s going to do to the prices, and simply typing ‘Marth amiibo’ into eBay.co.uk brings up a bundle with him and Wii Fit Trainer for £80, while the going rate for him alone seems to be £20+.
Although that’s far from the silliest price an amiibo has gone for on eBay, with a production error variant of Samus Arran with two gun arms recently selling for $2,500 (£1,600) and a version of the Villager with his arms reversed for $102 (£65).
We have no idea why.
The Nintendo store still has all the figures in stock and at the standard price of £10.99, although who knows how long that’s going to last for.
The second wave of amiibo figures is due for release next Friday, with another two scheduled for early in the new year. Most stores seem to be offering pre-orders for them at the standard prices, which of course is playing straight into Nintendo’s hands…

Interessante Möglichkeit für Leute, die keinen Wert darauf legen die Figuren zu sammeln.AP: If you discontinue certain "amiibo" figures, will you continue to include them digitally in future games?
Miyamoto: We're not making promises for certain figures, but the way "amiibo" is designed is that certain games can have "amiibo" specifically for that game. Other games can take advantage of past "amiibo" that developers want to make their game compatible with. In the future, we have the option, if certain "amiibo" figures are no longer available in stores, to release an "amiibo" in card form with the same functionality.
